I’m pissed, and you should be too. Here’s why…
A friend of mine reached out to me the other day to let me know she was diagnosed with something called Pseudotumor Cerebri (also known as Intracranial Hypertension). Ever heard of it? Yeah, me neither.
What is Pseudotumor Cerebri?
It happens when the cerebrospinal fluid in the brain increases and puts elevated pressure on the brain. The symptoms are like a brain tumor, but it’s not a brain tumor.
Symptoms of Pseudotumor Cerebri
- headaches (sometimes severe) that start behind your eyes
- vision problems like blurred, dimmed or double vision, bright flashes
- nausea and vomiting
…that get worse over time.
Guess what can cause Pseudotumor Cerebri?
The Mirena IUD and other progestin-only forms of birth control like the Nexplanon.
Are you or have you been on any of these forms of birth control? If so, did you know there was such a serious risk to your health?
One quick google search and you’ll find links to lawsuits against both the Mirena and Nexplanon manufacturers.
There are also conditions linked to Pseudotumor Cerebri that I think are pertinent to the women who follow me:
Conditions linked to Pseudotumor Cerebri:
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
- Addison’s disease
- Blood clotting disorders
- Anemia
- Lupus
This is one of the many reasons I advocate hard for period literacy and more natural forms of birth control.
I mean, don’t we deserve better???
F*ck yeah we do.
Are women just collateral damage when it comes to birth control???
F*ck no, we are not.
And it’s time we change that. If you are on a progestin-only birth control and experiencing the symptoms I described, please see your doctor.
And if you are considering a more natural form of birth control, consider the Daysy Fertility Tracker. It is a device you use to take your basal body temperature every morning and it tells you whether you are fertile (red light) or infertile (green light) on that day.
I’ve been using it for two years and love it, and my Daysy-converted clients and friends rave about it!
Yes, you have to use condoms, the pull out method or abstain on fertile days but you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that you are not poisoning yourself with synthetic hormones (read chemicals) every.single.day.
I truly believe we are at a pivotal moment in the women’s health movement, and it’s time to collectively stand up and fight for better treatment by the medical complex.
We can do that by making different choices. By choosing to opt out of a system that is broken and doesn’t work for us.
You can start by choosing better birth control for yourself or another woman or girl in your life. Read about my experience with the Daysy and get $20 off too. 🙂
If you need help coming off hormonal birth control, I’ve created the ultimate step by step protocol to help you transition off hormonal birth control (the pill (patch, IUD, implant etc) and take back control of your hormones, your body and your life. Check out my Fix Your Birth Control Protocol here!
Okay #endrant. Just had to get that out!

I think I have this! I have been searching for answers for about a year now. I’ve seen three ophthalmologists and a neurologist and nobody has been able to help me… going to the doctor today to have the nexplanon removed and try to get answers.
