Childcare is an investment on so many levels: Time, Financial & Emotional; however the payoff is worth the commitment. There are 5 ways this investment can help make for a well balanced family and a better you.
First, research through your personal network. The research that goes into finding the right sitter service or sitter for your family can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Talk to your parent friends after school, at the gym or at lunch and gather the top 5 referrals from your friends.
Next conduct some online research. Gather the data based on your family’s needs and make calls to your favorite finds.
Thirdly, set up a trial date with your chosen sitter. Most services will offer this to new clients, just ask! Be sure you interview the sitter candidates in person and then set-up a meet & greet where you can see the candidate interact with your child.
Once you have a sitter over 1-2 times you’ll know if she is a keeper. Your child will be engaged, feel at ease, and be more inclined to separate with a sitter that is hands on and attentive. Be sure you have complete contact info for the sitter and she has yours, including emergency numbers, in case she needs to get a hold of you when you are out. Extra assurance to you.
Finally, you’ll start to build a small rotation of sitters that you can go to for that date night out and you’ll know each time they come over to watch your children that you made a great choice, thus adding an additional support to a balanced, happy, organized family.
Following these tips is a terrific way to move in a healthy direction of overall balance for your family. Doing your homework will help you feel confident and over time you will build a successful relationship with your sitters. They will grow with your family and serve as excellent role models to your child.
