Yesterday I had the pleasure of interviewing Barbara Loomis, a Restorative Exercise™ Specialist, and certified practitioner and educator of Maya and Chinese abdominal therapy. You might be wondering what all of that means? Well, basically Barbara combines ancient healing techniques with the modern science of biomechanics. This confluence of ancient therapies combined with modern therapies blends effortlessly to create holistic health for each individual.
Barbara really knows her stuff! I highly recommend watching this video if you are dealing with menstrual cramps and painful periods, lower back pain, infertility, digestive problems and physical problems related to pregnancy. Her info will rock your world!
Barbara is located in Portland Oregon (lucky girls who live close to her!) and you can find her online at www.nurturance.net.
NOTE: Barbara has added some explanations and helpful links. She’s a total rockstar!
I was interviewed via SKYPE by Nicole Jardim of The Healthy Elements. This was my very first recorded video interview. Yikes, it’s not easy to stay within a 20 minute format with such complex subject matter. I couldn’t ask for a better interviewer, Nicole rocks and she has an awesome website with lots of great information, so check it out.
One thing about doing video interviews, you can’t go back and change the way you said something, so I want to clarify a few points. After watching the video please read the short comments below. I’ve also included a few links to make your life easier.
I realized after watching the video that I kind of made it sound like if an ATMAT practitioner so much as looked at you, you would delivery your baby at lightening speed and you would live happily ever after. I didn’t really say that, but some folks may interpret it that way. The fact is, ATMAT is a gentle technique that works with your body. The mamma and baby determine when the time is right whether it’s 36 hours or four hours. Faster is not always better. Arvigo practitioners don’t induce labor, or move the baby. ATMAT helps by relaxing the mother and aligning the uterus and pelvic bones for a smoother delivery.
The other point I wanted to make was that The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy™ are inspired by traditional Maya healing techniques. The techniques were developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo based on her apprenticeship with the Maya healer Don Elijio Panti and her own education, training, and research as a naprapathic physician.
I offer SKYPE sessions for Restorative Exercise™ pelvic floor health and for the Chi Nei Tsang (Chinese abdominal therapy) self-care abdominal massage.
