So it has officially been a week since I started my professional training program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City.  I can safely say this is the best career decision I have ever made. From the moment I walked into the Rose Hall at Lincoln Center I could feel the energy of so many inspirational and hopeful people. I can’t begin to describe how incredible it was to be in a room with 1000 other like-minded individuals. And of course the weekend only continued to get better from there. First, we were introduced to a number of past students who have gone on to great success in their particular fields. Then Joshua Rosenthal, the founder of IIN, took the reins and led each of the classes, carefully weaving together the varying views of some really profound guest speakers, including Marion Nestle PhD, Walter Willett MD, and Bernie Siegel MD.

You may not have heard these names before, but if you have, you know that these people are leading the way in the fight to create a better world through health/nutritional education and medicine.

Marion Nestle is a renowned NYU professor and is most well known for her stand-up role against corporate food manufacturers and factory farms. Walter Willett chairs the nutrition department at Harvard University and he is the second most quoted author in clinical medicine!  Bernie Siegel is a surgeon who is changing the way doctors and patients approach traditional western medicine by incorporating the mind/body connection into this field…

Phew! And that was just the first weekend!

With all that said, when I graduate in July I will be a Certified Holistic Health Coach. Some of you are probably wondering what exactly that means…well, at IIN the curriculum focuses on bio-individuality, the concept that one person’s food is another person’s poison, because no one diet is right for everyone. They teach more than 100 different dietary theories, from the traditional to the modern, Eastern to Western, popular to obscure. I will be trained to help people achieve their health goals, including weight loss, food and supplement choices, lifestyle changes and many more. This certification combined with my yoga training will allow me to offer comprehensive holistic wellness services to my clients.

I can’t wait to share more as my journey continues to unfold…I hope you will stay tuned!
